Important Election Dates

The following are IMPORTANT DATES for municipal officials to keep in mind for Town Meeting 2008.

January 28 -- in Australian ballot tonws, nominating petitions for local offices must be filed by 5:00 PM. 30 voters, or 1% of all legal voters, whichever is less, must sign the petition.

February 3 -- last day for posting the town meeting warning and notice for Town Meeting and the presidential primary.

February 23 -- last day to post sample ballots for municipal election; last day to mail or distribute warning in annual town report (to avoid publishing in paper).

February 27 -- last day (until 5:00 PM) to apply to be added to checklist.

February 28 -- Town meeting warning must be published in newspaper IF town report not previously distributed. Also, Town Clerk must send BCA list of voters to be added to checklist.

March 3 -- Presiding officer of each polling place must post, prior to opening the polling place and in a conspicuous place, the warning and notice, sample ballots and the current checklist.

Final day for public informational meeting on questions to be voted by Australian ballot.

MARCH 4 -- Town Meeting

March 11 -- Last day to warn run-off election.

March 14 -- Last day for losing candidate to request recount, and last day for voter to file request for recount on Australian ballot items.

March 26 -- First day run-off election may be held.

April 2 -- Last day for run-off election.

April 3 -- Last day for filing petitions for reconsideration or recission.
