Charlotte's West Village near Ferry Road will not include an overhead transmission line. In an Order dated March 28, 2007, the Public Service Board ordered Vermont Transco LLC (f/k/a VELCO) to place its 115 kV transmission lines underground at the Ferry Road crossing in Charlotte.
After reviewing several different overhead line options offered by VELCO, the PSB determined that the Town of Charlotte was right -- the line should be placed underground at Ferry Road. The estimated cost of undergrounding the line was, in the Board's view overshadowed by the aesthetic harm that would occur from an overhead installation.
The Ferry Road area in Charlotte and the Bay Road area in Shelburne are the only portions of the VELCO NRP route where the line has been ordered to be placed underground. SP&F is proud to have represented both of these communities in their efforts to strike a responsible balance between the interests of the local community and its citizens and the broader public good.
