During its July 2005 Term, the Vermont Supreme Court appointed Joseph McLean to serve as an Associate Examiner of the Board of Bar Examiners for a term expiring September 30, 2009.

As an Associate Examiner, Joe assists with the preparation and grading of essay questions for the Vermont Bar Exam. He participated in the grading of the July 2006 Bar Exam essays, and is helping to prepare the exam to be administered in February.

Recently, Joe attended a seminar sponsored by the National Conference of Bar Examiners in Chicago that focused on grading the Multi-State Performance Test, a recent addition to the Vermont Bar Exam. This portion of the Bar Exam assesses the examinee's ability to use practical skills in specific, real-world situations.
